The 2015 edition of the contest is now over. The finalists will be published on our Facebook. You can vote for your favorite picture from November 17 to 19. The winners will be announced at the awards evening which will take place on November 19, 2015.

The Student Life Office invite you to participate in our annual international student photo and video contest. We want to discover Québec through new eyes, through your own lens!

There are over $600 in prizes up for grabs! 

Conditions for participation

You must be an international student enrolled at Université Laval in 2016. You must fill out the registration before 23:59 on November 6, 2016, via Contact Cosmopolite portal (in the section “Espace étudiant”, use your IDUL and password, then click on “ Concours photos et videos” and “Étudiants internationaux “). 

The photos and videos of the finalists will be exhibited during the International Education Week from November 21 to November 25, 2016. Students whose works have been selected for the exhibition will be invited to the awards ceremony which will be held on November 24, 2016.

A stay abroad is often marked by encounters. Send us a photo of people that have been significant during your stay in Québec. Photos in this category must feature people or animals

Post card

Trips abroad are filled with discoveries: unforgettable rural and natural landscapes. Submit your best landscape photos in this category.

My stay at UL

Your experience at Université Laval (UL) is an important part of your stay in Québec. Share a photo that illustrates a highlight of your studies or your life here, on the campus. Photos in this category must have been taken on campus or contain a UL symbol.

Videos – 1 category

An international experience is difficult to illustrate in one image only. Share your best moments and your discoveries through a three minutes short video.

Eligibility criteria (photos and videos)

  • For each application, please specify the category.
  • Each photo or video must include a title, a brief description (country, location, people, action, etc.) and a short story (300 words maximum).
  • Photos must be submitted in JPG format with a minimum resolution of 155 ppp/500 ko.
  • Videos must be in AVI, MP4 or Divx.
  • Photos or videos must have been taken during your stay in Québec.
  • Videos must last between 30 seconds and 5 minutes.
  • Submit before November 6th, 2016 at 11:59 p.m.


The online submission of your form, photos and/or videos will act as reception date and time of your application. Any application received after the deadline will be rejected without any other formality.

Awards and selection criteria

A jury of three Université Laval employees, one international student and one photograph will select the finalists and winners.

$100 per winner in the Encounters, Post Card and My stay at UL categories

  • Originality (approach of the theme)
  • Emotion conveyed by the photo
  • Quality of image
$100 for the best video – My stay in three minutes…
One price for all the videos received (international students at Université Laval and students from Université Laval living abroad).

$100 for the People’s Choice Award – Exhibition
Public vote during the exhibition.

  • Language quality

Contest’s organizers may not grant an award in a category that has less than three contestants.


By entering this contest, students give Université Laval their consent to use, whether for advertising purposes or not, their names, photos, and their stories, regardless of format, through any means or broadcast medium and without any time or territorial restrictions. The material will be used with utmost respect for both the authors and the people appearing in the photos. Contestants must guarantee contest organizers that the photos submitted do not infringe on third party rights.

In the event that a contestant should decide, for a serious and valid reason, to withdraw his or her authorization to broadcast his or her work, he or she must notify the Bureau de la vie étudiante. On reception of this notice, Université Laval commits to no longer broadcasting or authorizing the broadcast of this material.
